Forex Smart Tools’ Trade Log is every foreign exchange trader’s best friend. Each transaction can be traced and analysed, patterns can be identified and learnt from. Data can be exported, published in PDF format, and settings can be shared between users.

Commissioned as a companion to the Forex Calculator, the Trade Log manipulates large amounts of data to provide intuitive, drillable views of what’s really happening in the user’s trading.

The software

The Trade Log is a native Windows application, but pulls data from the web in real time and uses an embedded browser as the primary user interface. Built around an optimised relational database, the Trade Log is designed for easy enhancement in the future.

The challenges

The Trade Log was expected to be a relatively simple piece of software, but as the requirements were analysed and enhancements were added the complexity mounted up. While none of the individual components was difficult to write, there were a lot of them.

The clients

Mindy and Evelyn of Forex Smart Tools have been fabulous to work for. Forex traders themselves, they have an expert understanding of the art, and take a consultative approach to design which has allowed the software to draw on everyone’s strengths.
