The first four notes of this piano piece are taken from one of Felix Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words. At that point, however, the piece diverges to chart its own course. Written in August 2005, it stands up well as a piano solo. Nonetheless, I particularly like the guitar and flute conversation at the end of the bridge, before the central motif resumes.
