I’m not alone in feeling alone,
I’m not the only one who lives her life in silence;
A friend to those without friends,
Welcoming those who are never welcome …
I’m not alone in feeling alone,
I’m not the only one who lives her life in silence;
A friend to those without friends,
Welcoming those who are never welcome.
I know it’s a feeling that takes all its meaning
From a lack of belief in our own worth as people,
And I will not allow it to win.
I’m not afraid of being afraid,
It’s a natural response to being in danger.
In fright we fight or take flight,
We boot straight into survival behaviour.
But there is some thinking to do when it’s over
And adrenaline’s replaced by relief and composure,
Because fear must never win.
And I’ve seen two futures that hang before us
Like pinadas in a festival of fools
One holds poison and one yields healing
And we thrash at both blindly so we don’t have to choose
We are not poor just because we are poor,
There are riches in our hearts that make us wealthy.
When we give away all we that own
We have treasure beyond our calculation,
But we empty our souls as we fill up our pockets,
Until we are deaf to all generous impulse.
We must not allow greed to win.
You are here now wherever you are,
This is the only moment you can live your life in.
What is gone will not come again,
And what is coming waits on the present moment.
Do not relive the past as if your will could change it,
Don’t dream of tomorrow as if you can arrange it.
Make this the moment you win!
For we need your eyes and your ears to be open,
As your hands join ours in the task
To open the future that ushers in healing
We cannot succeed without you by our side
I am not weak just because I am weak,
You are not weak just because you are weak,
We are not weak just because we are weak
