Three Deck Wreck: the album

I released an anthology: Three Deck Wreck celebrates Three Decades of Recording.

After throat surgery in 2005 I lost my upper singing register. I struggled to continue performing and writing; by mid-2007 I’d recorded only a handful of new songs. As a staging post to the next album of original songs I released an anthology.

Three Deck Wreck celebrates Three Decades of Recording. The cover photographs were taken during a 2006 trip to Fraser Island in Queensland, Australia.

I took equal shares of the album’s content from four sources: my two preceding albums, earlier recordings and newer, previously unreleased songs. The newer and older material fell into place easily, but I struggled to choose only four songs each from Inappropriate Touching and Lean on the Angels.

5. Love You Live 2005

The note I scrawled in lipstick on the bedroom wall crawled down the stairs and died unnoticed in the hall … more

And an extra …

Audio MP3

When a Man was written around the same time as Mister Ryan, but the CD didn’t have a slot for it.

FULL LYRICS

When a man brings you heartache what I can’t understand
Is why you still love him, why you pretend
That everything’s alright, that everything’s fine.
And your life may go forward, but living’s left behind.

Now I have all these questions, but it’s answers I need.
I need you to tell me, to tell me why these things should be.

He gives you no warning when he comes and he goes
But expects you’ll be waiting whenever he shows

Now you may have answers to help me understand
Why you carry on hurting at the hands of the man.

When a man brings you heartache what I can’t understand
Is why you still love him, why you pretend.
